The Barclaycard USA Cycle Challenge 2007

Inspiration

The challenge to cycle across the United States was inspired by Jane Tomlinson, who battled cancer for seven years and raised over £1 million for charity, and who sadly passed away in September 2007.

Eight cyclists from Barclaycard emulated one of Jane's greatest achievements by crossing the United States, from West Coast to East, by pedal power alone.

Challenge

Starting in San Diego on the west coast of America on September 29th, the challenge saw the team climb from sea level to over 8,000 feet and back down again, across mountains and deserts through heat and humidity, arriving in St Augustine, Florida, over 3,250 miles and 46 days later.

Show your support

Although the cycling part of the challenge is now complete, the fund raising continues apace! Why not check out the group’s Just Giving page at www.justgiving.co.uk and make a donation – all the money raised will go to the nominated charities so please be generous. American vistors to this site can pledge donations at the US donation site.

The riders hosted an After Ride Party on 29th November at Northampton Saints Rugby Club. The party theme was ‘Las Vegas’, featuring an Elvis impersonator, casino tables, raffle and auction. All funds raised go to the nominated charities.
